FAQ

Horizontes works alongside labor organizations, worker-led organizations, and labor movement partners to strengthen shared analysis, identify strategic opportunities, and support greater alignment of resources around movement-defined priorities.

We welcome engagement from organizations and leaders working across the labor ecosystem—including independent trade unions, worker organizations, organizations representing informal and precarious workers, migrant worker organizations, and other democratic worker-led initiatives. We are particularly interested in learning from and supporting those closest to workers’ realities and supporting connections across regions, sectors, and movements.

Horizontes is an emerging platform for philanthropic partners seeking to better understand, engage with, and invest in worker power as a strategy for advancing shared goals—including democracy, climate action, human rights, gender equity, economic justice, and a more inclusive future of work.

Many funders are working to advance these goals across different issue areas and geographies. Horizontes creates a space to explore the connections between these efforts and the strategies of worker organizations and democratic labor movements, while building relationships, shared understanding, and opportunities for greater alignment and collective impact.

Through Horizontes, philanthropic partners can:

  • Build shared understanding of the landscape: Engage with analysis of the global labor movement, worker power strategies, and the evolving challenges and opportunities shaping workers’ lives and organizing efforts.
  • Connect and align with other resource partners: Participate in a collaborative space where philanthropic donors, public sector actors, trade union solidarity support organizations (TUSSOs), labor movement partners, and other resource partners can exchange learning, build relationships, identify opportunities for alignment, and explore how collective action can increase impact.
  • Strengthen relationships with the field: Build meaningful connections with labor organizations, worker leaders, and movement actors to better understand priorities, strategies, and the realities facing workers across regions and sectors.
  • Identify effective strategies and investments: Gain insight into emerging priorities, movement needs, and opportunities to support worker organizations, movement infrastructure, and long-term capacity.

Horizontes seeks to build a stronger community of resource partners—across philanthropy, public institutions, labor, and other sectors—who are informed by worker-led priorities, connected to the field, and equipped to invest strategically in the future of worker power.

Public resources have historically played a vital role in supporting the infrastructure and ecosystems required for workers’ rights, labor organizing, and democratic institutions to flourish. Government funders have often missed opportunities, however, to effectively align their priorities and programs with the most urgent needs of workers and the efforts of other resource partners. Horizontes works with public sector partners to explore and identify opportunities to strengthen investment in worker power, connect resources with movement priorities, collaborate with complementary funders, and support strategies that advance inclusive economic development, democracy, and social justice.
